An exceptionally rare early 18th century George II (circa 1730) walnut centre table with marble top of exquisite original colour and proportions. Most tables from this period with a marble top were side tables designed to be placed against a wall with an unfinished back, however this table is finished on all four sides making it a rare centre table. This elegant table consists of a later marble top, possibly Arabescato marble, this marble having been quarried in Italy since Roman times. The marble top is supported on a walnut base with oak frame consisting of a bold cavetto frieze with cross-grain quadrant moulding below leading down to the elegant cabriole legs shaped to the top and terminating with four large pad feet. This table is in very good condition for age, the colour being exceptional, it is of stable construction and can go straight into a home - this is an extremely versatile table as it can be used as either a centre table or side table.Size:Height: 30.5'' / 77.5cmWidth: 41.5'' / 105.5cmDepth: 22'' / 56cmMarble top only:Width: 40.5'' / 103cmDepth: 21.25'' / 54cm
