A large early 20th century (circa 1930) Philips 19 inch terrestrial table globe supported on a turned walnut base. This table globe fully rotates on a half brass bezel, the globe having a cartouche with the makers details and the scale 1:26,000,000 all supported on a turned walnut base, produced by George Philip & Son Ltd, London. George Philip (1800-1882) was a cartographer and map publisher, he founded George Philip & Sons in 1834 in Liverpool where they specialised in maps and atlases. It was not until 1902 when the company had relocated to London to the London Geographical Institute that they produced their first globes. The company remained a family company until 1988 when it was sold to part of the Reed International Group although continued to trade under the name George  Philip Ltd. This globe is in good condition for age (with some wear & old repairs, commensurate with age), is of stable construction and can go straight into a home or office - an ideal addition to a desk or library. Size: Height: 28'' / 71cm Width: 19'' / 48.25cm Depth: 19'' / 48.25cm Base: width: 13'' / 33cm                 depth: 13'' / 33cm
