Description:

A set of eight Italian 17th century ebony and ivory engraved panels, possibly Neapolitan, in the manner of works by cabinet maker Iacobus Fiamengo, (known in Napoli between 1580 and 1630) and the ivory engraver Giovanni Battista de Curtis. The panels all of rectangular form with outer ripple moulding with engraved ivory panels veneered on pine, the panels depicting various scenes, possibly after ‘Ovid’s Metamorphoses’ – these were a collection of mythological and legendary stories from the Creation of the World up until the death of Julius Caesar. The cabinet maker Iacobus Fiamengo, (known in Napoli between 1580 and 1630) and the ivory engraver Giovanni Battista de Curtis produced cabinets and table cabinets with similar panels after engravings by Antonio Tempesta (1555-1630) of ‘Ovid’s Metamorphoses’. These panels are in good original condition for age, they could be displayed separately or maybe displayed in a larger frame.   Size of each individual panel: Height: 4.25'' / 10.5cm Width: 7.75'' / 20cm Depth: 0.75'' / 2cm
