Ben McLaughlin, Collage no.1

Although known mostly for his figurative painting, Ben McLaughlin has always made abstract drawings and collages - primarily as compositional starting points for other works. Over the past couple of years McLaughlin has been using some of his large collection of papers, advertisements, cardboard etc. to make a series of collages. With a nod to early Twentieth Century artists such as Ben Nicholson, these seemingly simple works have an intensely satisfying purity and balance.
