Tale of Genji. Edo period 1600-1868. Fine Japanese fitted lacquered incense box. Decorated wood with gold and silver. Hiramaki-e and takamaki-e lacquer along with fine shell work and gold nashiji. The interior has a rectangular tray which represents chapter number 24. The two boats which include the phoenix and the dragon heading towards the pavilion.Made by Zohika established 1661.
