Description:

Sciolari gold chandelier with 32 glass petals, 1970`s ca, Italian. This vintage chandelier has been gently cleaned while respecting the antique patina. It is rewired, earthed & ready to install. It is possible to install this chandelier in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. With its Modernist repeated cubic shapes this chandelier playfully twists the traditional form. The result is sculptural & chic. This design along with the gold-plated gilt frame and quality glass are characteristic of the designs by Gaetano Sciolari the attributed designer. The combination of Modernism & floral makes this chandelier a unique addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Post-Modern or Contemporary. Attention is drawn to the 8 flower-like arms hanging downwards before spread opening to reveal the light bulb. Each flower is cubic shaped with 4 rectangular petals coming out of a golden cube. Carrying on this cubic theme the stem is gold-plated tubing with a square profile. This stem curves to join the central column, and at the end the tubing is cross-sectioned to finish in a diamond shape. At each junction, where the stems meet the central column, there is a decorative gold-plated disc. The central column has a wider disc which then narrows in stages to the pendant rod. At the top there is the original dome shaped ceiling cup. Inside the ceiling cup fitted at the top of the rod there is a hook to hang this chandelier to the ceiling. The pendant rod can easily be unscrewed making it possible to increase or decrease this rod, or replace with a brass chain. The removable glass petals are of exquisite quality craftsmanship: they are in clear glass with a top layer of white glass. The edges are bevelled to reveal the clear glass; therefore each petal appears to have an outer frame. Both surfaces of the pedals are highly polished. The outer surface has the white portion raised while the internal surface is all flat. These petals curve outwards so when grouped in fours they create a flower shape. At the top of each petal there is a hole which locks in place onto the frame by a metal prong in the frame. When installed each petal continues through the golden metal covers for a decorative finishing detail. This chandelier carries 8 small screw standard E14 light bulbs up to 40 Watts each. Here it is photographed with clear 25 Watts Pygmy shaped light bulbs which are included in this price. Other types of E14 light bulbs such a Candle could be used for a different look. This vintage chandelier is in very good condition. The frame is in good condition and sturdy, there is some rubbing to the gilt in a few small areas in line with age. The 32 glass petals are all in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. There is some rubbing to the glass in a couple of corners in line with age. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport, the glass pieces would be removed and wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap & cardboard. The frame would be wrapped in bubble wrap. Together these parts would easily fit into a box ideal for posting. Additional dimensions: The Height of the frame without the hanging rod is 26 cm. The dimensions of each glass pedal are: Height: 17 cm & Width: 4 cm.GAETANO SCIOLARI BIOGRAPHY - While Sciolari Lighting has been around since 1892, it was their most famous offspring Gaetano Sciolari who went on to design for Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950`s.
