An exquisite and important 18th century period Gustavian sofa bench hand carved and signed by the Stockholm master chair maker Jacob Malmsten (1753 - 1788). Born in Finland, Jacob Malmsten working initially in the Rococo style before producing very fine 'High Gustavian' furniture for Stockholm's elite. Richly decorated with scrolling carvings, and wonderful tapered & fluted feet beneath flower motifs, this bench is in its 100% original paint/patina. Made between 1775 and 1785, this bench would suit a number of different situations around the home. Perfect in a drawing room, hallway, bay window, at the end of a bed, or even used as a decorative coffee table. Newly re-upholstered in a Romo linen using the original tufting points. www.georgialacey.co.uk
