The Modern Neoclassical design executed in solid brass, mirror & Lucite with faceted crystal beads are features of the designs by Maison Jansen, the attributed designer. Elegant & timeless these vintage wall lights are a Modern take on the Louis XVI style. This pared down Neoclassical look and the addition of new materials such as Lucite was characteristic of the early 1940`s Modernism. Each sconce has an oval silver mirror back sitting on a polished brass plate, which adds depth and interesting reflections. The brass plate raises at the top & bottom portion of the frame, following the oval shape, and these two brass portions are each decorated with 9 round faceted crystal beads. At the centre of each light there is a round brass decorative plate from which depart two solid polished brass arms. The longer arms curve upwards and each finishes with a lamp holder with a plastic candle cover & clear Lucite bobeche. Two rows of octagonal faceted crystals decorate each Lucite bobeche. The shorter arms curve inwards and each finishes with a double string of round crystal beads. In total there are 5 strings of round crystal beads on each light: two running from the top brass portion of the frame to the short arms, one in between the two short arms, and two in between the long arms. The result is gentle reflections and delicate feminine draping. Each wall light can be either operated from the main switch on the wall, or from the base of each light itself as each light has a pull cord switch dangling from the bottom. This is brass finished with a brass acorn. It is possible to remove this switch if preferred. There is an enameled metal bracket with holes to screw the lights to the wall, on which the brass & mirror back surface easily & safely slides in place. This attachment brings the light from the wall adding to the sense of depth. Each light carries 2 standard small screw light bulbs E14 up to 40 Watts each. Presently fitted with standard Candle shape clear 25 Watts light bulbs, which are included in this price. These lights could take any other E14 shape light bulbs. These lights are in very good condition. The mirror surfaces are in very good condition with no chips or marks. The clear Lucite bobeches & candle covers have no chips and only minor marks & antique patina in line with age. The solid polished brass surfaces have a warm aged patina which adds character. All the crystal beads are present and in excellent condition. These lights sell together and the price is for the pair. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport each light would be bubble wrapped with an outer layer of card. The mirror surfaces & crystal beads would be reinforced. Together these pieces would fit nicely into a box for shipping.
