Maison Bagues style chandelier, bronze frame with crystals, 1940`s ca, French. This antique chandelier has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is newly rewired, earthed & ready to install. It is possible to install this chandelier in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. It can be used with a dimmer. This Neoclassical French chandelier, attributed to Maison Bagues, has a strong Art Deco influence. It features elegant crystals radiating on a solid bronze gilt frame. There is flow of movement from the curving arms, dangling crystals and crystal balls in stacks. The combination of Modernist elements on the traditional shape, make this piece an elegant addition to a range of interiors such as Traditional, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Modernist, Industrial, Shabby Chic or Contemporary. Structurally there is a central column of baluster form decorated with a stack of 3 crystal balls in the centre. At the bottom of the chandelier there is a domed bronze canopy from which raise upwards the 8 arms. Decorated between these main arms, there are 8 bronze spirals raising higher, each finished with a crystal bead & dangling crystal. The underside of the canopy has a string of small crystal beads that sit within cutouts to the canopy. This allows the light above to come through. The underside of the canopy is finished with a large optical crystal ball faceted on the sides. The 8 arms dramatically curve outwardly and up with a hairpin turn creating movement. They also have the baluster design and are decorated with a crystal ball at the centre. At the end of each arm there is a faceted crystal bobeche and a bronze candle holder leading the the lamp holder, each of these is covered by the original antique cream celluloid candle-shaped tube. The chandelier takes 8 standard small screw light bulbs E14 up to 40 Watts each. Presently photographed & fitted with 25 Watts Candle clear light bulbs, which are included in the price. At the top of the column there is a large decorative round loop leading to the solid brass chain. At the top of the chain there is the original ceiling cup which also has a decorative round loop to attach to the chain. Inside the ceiling cup there is an `S` hook to attach this chandelier to the ceiling. It is possible to lengthen or shorten the brass chain for the desired drop. This chandelier is in very good condition with antique patination on the bronze adding character. All the crystal pieces are present and in very good condition. As expected with age, there is only a small old superficial chip to one of the faceted bobeches (as photographed). There are also 2 small internal inclusions to 2 other faceted glass bobeches but these are not noticeable when the piece is installed. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport, the crystal drops will be removed when possible wrapped in a layer of paper & bubble wrap. The frame would be wrapped in bubble wrap. Together these parts would easily fit into a box ideal for posting & shipping. Additional dimensions: The Height of only the frame without the chain is 60 cm.MAISON BAGUES FURNITURE HISTORYNoël Baguès founded the Parisian based Maison Bagues in 1840, initially producing bronzes.
