Jules Leleu sconces, a pair, gilt bronze, 1930`s ca, French. Both lights thoroughly cleaned respecting the antique patina. Newly rewired & earthed, new fitted brass & porcelain lamp holders, new lampshades. Both lights are in full working order & ready to install. Light bulbs included. It is possible to install these lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. They can be used with a dimmer. This pair of original antique Art Deco sconces attributed to Jules Leleu are based on the Neoclassical form. The geometric design is unique & elegant. With these features they would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Traditional, or Contemporary. Each quality frame is made in gilt bronze with very fine decoration of scroll work and interlace pattern, which sits on top of a rhomboidal gilt bronze detail at the centre of each frame, adding depth to the design. This central portion is empty at the back to hide the wiring. The design is very simple but effective: 3 parallel ribbon like curves run interlocking, the central ones elongating sideways into a lamp holder. A playful decorative turn full circle complete each arm and support a lamp holder. T here is a conical bobeche in bronze, and a decorative bronze conical cover to the lamp holder, both geometric forms very much in the Art Deco style. Inside, there is a new brass lamp holder with porcelain finishing, keeping with the antique look. The effect is elegant and gives a sense of movement. Each wall light carries one standard small screw light bulb E 14 up to 40 Watts each. At present fitted & photographed with Candle Clear light bulbs of 25 Watts, which are included in the price. At the back of each frame there is at the top a small ring where to pass through a gilt metal L shaped screw to fit the frame to the wall. Each light is finished with a new black silk lampshade, lined in gold metallic and edged with a black fabric trim. These lampshades clip onto the candle shaped light bulbs. The quality frames are in very good condition with a warm antique patina developed over the years in line with age adding character, such as tiny marks or dots of old paint hardly noticeable in some areas. The lampshades are new and in excellent condition. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the lamp shades would be removed and individually wrapped as would the bronze bases. Together these pieces would fit nicely into a box for posting. These wall lights sell together, and this price is for the pair. Additional dimensions: The base alone (without the shade) has the following dimensions: Height: 18 cm; Width: 26 cm; Depth: 11.5 cm Each lampshade has the following dimensions: Height: 9.5 cm; Top Diameter: 7 cm; Bottom Diameter: 10 cm JULES LELEU HISTORY - Born into a family of artisans and artists, the House of Leleu had been around since the 1700`s, Jules Leleu was one of the fathers of French Art Deco Design. Although he “never achieved the international fame of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, Jean Michel Frank, or Le Corbusier,” The New York Times once wrote, “he was just as successful and probably more prolific than his better-known contemporaries.” Often compared with the furniture designs of Ruhlmann, Leleu’s chairs, tables and cabinets emphasized simple shapes, exotic woods, marquetry, inlaid ivory and other embellishments. Leleu adored tradition and was the ultimate craftsman, but as his career progressed he grew more adventurous; in the hands of his children, the House of Leleu began to experiment with lacquer, plastic, aluminium and fiberglass.
