A spectacular and extremely high quality French early 18th century Louis XV period tortoise shell and ormolu mounted cartel, wall mounted clock. The bracket with exquisite tortoise shell is mounted with a bottom ormolu finial of an owl below four ‘S’ scrolled corners decorated with acanthus leaves and a top head of a roster. The center is with a pierced central reserve below a draped trophy. The clock is raised by sensational ‘S’ scrolled supports with a twisted design and ends with a fish. The large face with all original enameled cartouches with hand painted Roman numerals has a hand blown glass door with an ormolu decoration of two charming children flanked by a parrot on each side. The case is also decorated by a Boulle lattice design of brass inlays. The remarkable top has a seated female maiden and guarded by serpents. All original gilt, movement.
