Description:

Edouard Schenck lamp (attributed) hand forged iron frame with dragons, 1930`s ca, French. The iron frame on this antique lamp has been gently cleaned & rubbed with a protector. It has been newly rewired and PAT tested by an electrician. It has a new chrome lamp holder, new black silk cable and new black plug. To maintain the antique look it has a vintage lamp holder cover and vintage pedal switch, both of which are chrome. This lamp can work in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity. It is also possible to use this lamp with a dimmer. This floor lamp has many features of early 20th Century French designer Edouard Schenck  (1874-1959).  For example the quality twisted & curled iron work finished with dragon heads are similar to signed Schenck pieces. This lamp is not signed however. At nearly 2 meters tall this lamp would make an impressive illumination for a large room. It would suite a range of interiors such as Aesthetic Movement, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Country, Industrial, Hollywood Regency or Contemporary. Structurally this lamp has a hand forged iron frame with tripod base and good weight. The tripod with scrolling decorative work leads to the column. Initially the column is intertwined iron rods and then graduates down to a single rod. This junction is marked with an iron octagon which also holds the electrical cable. As the rod rises it is decorated with a trio of dragon heads. These have twisted necks and are grouped together with an iron band. The dragons support a decorative iron plate with scalloped edges. Beyond this the iron column continues to the lamp holder. Takes one standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 100 Watts. Presently fitted and photographed with a standard Candle clear light bulb of 40 Watts, which is included in the price. Alternatively it is possible to use any other E14 light bulb shapes. Fitted with a vintage lampshade (probably from the 1980`s ca) which has lilac silk fabric on the outside and is lined with silver metallic paper. This antique lamp is in very good condition. The frame is sound with no damages. The shade is in good condition with minor superficial marks, mostly on the inside, in line with age & wear. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the lampshade would be removed and packed separately with bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The base would be packed similarly. Both parts could be boxed, ideal for shipping. Additional dimensions: The total Height with the shade is 187 cm The base alone (without the lampshade) has the following dimensions: Height: 163 cm, Width: 44 cm, Depth: 44 cm. The lampshade alone is: Height: 32.5 cm, top Diameter: 46 cm,bottom Diameter: 50 cm.EDOUARD SCHENCK (1874-1959)Edouard Schenck grew up around his father`s jewelry store.  After the first world war, he studied iron work eventually working with glassmaker Jacques Gruber to produce the dome of Galeries Lafayette.
