Art Deco bear pair bookends, gold plated gilt sculptural bears on grey marble bases, 1930`s ca, French. These antique bookends have been gently cleaned while preserving the aged patina on the sculptures. They are ready to use. The stylized sculptured form of these bookends is iconic of the Art Deco period in France. Quality casting where the form & movement is enhanced with the clever shading linear groves. In contrast the smooth muscular body is exaggerated in the form & curves. This pair of bookends are incredibly tactile as seen by the gentle rubbing to the gilt. They would make the perfect present or complement a handsome decor scheme. The original rectangular polished marble base is in a medium shade of grey, a unique colour which complements the golden sculpture. The marble & metal give these bookends a good weight; they are very stable & usable. These bookends are in very good condition for their age. There is some rubbing to the gilt adding character. The original antique marble bases are in good condition with minor signs of wear such as a tiny small dent in the lateral edge of one of them. Packing is offered free of charge.
